TREATMENT ADHERENCE GAME

ENCOURAGING CHILDREN TO ADHERE TO THEIR LIFE-SAVING MEDICINE IN A FUN WAY

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe. Many CF sufferers are children, with more than 75% of patients diagnosed by age 2. Although potentially life-saving, the inhalation medications for CF can be uncomfortable for patients to take regularly.

As Lead Copywriter and Narrative Designer, I worked with my art partner to create a Pokemon-inspired tablet game that encourages children with cystic fibrosis to adhere to their potentially life-saving (but unpleasant-to-take) inhalation medicine in a fun way. Adherence to the medication--indicated by a twice-daily check-in--powers their animal avatar and allows it to play games and sports. The app also includes social components for users to see stats about the CF community.
